PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for controlling a spatial light modulator which accurately carries out optical addressing via scanning with control light and so on. PSOLUTION: The method for controlling the spatial light modulator includes a control light supply process to scan and supply at least a first control light La and a second control light Lb, which are aligned in nearly linear shape and are in beam forms, an erasure process to set a driving electrode 208 to a reference potential by irradiating an erasure electrode 211 set so as to have a reference potential different from that of a writing electrode 210 with one control light out of the first control light La and the second control light Lb and a writing process to generate specified force between the driving electrode 208 and a movable mirror 207 by irradiating the writing electrode 210 with the other control light out of the first control light La and the second control light Lb, after the erasure process.
