PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To facilitate direction control of an excavator body by optionally changing a tunnel excavating range by a cutter head in a tunnel excavator. ;SOLUTION: A cutter head 17 with a large number of cutter bits 18 is supported to the front end part of an excavator body 11 of square cylindrical shape in such a way as to be able to oscillate within the plane of the cutter head 17 by cutter drive mechanism 13, 14.
