METHOD OF DISCRIMINATING OPTICAL DISK TYPE AND APPARATUS USING THIS METHOD

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and apparatus for rapidly discriminating whether an optical disk type is the disk to be used exclusively for reproduction, or the recordable disk.;SOLUTION: An optical disk system for recording and/or reproducing an optical disk includes an optical pickup having a laser diode, an objective lens, a light receiving device, etc. The method of discriminating an optical disk type checks a track error signal to be detected while moving the objective lens upward/downward and simultaneously oscillating it in the radial direction of the disk, and discriminates the optical disk type by using the magnitude of the checked track error signal. Thus, the disk type can be discriminated in the initial stage of the disk discrimination, where the objective lens moves upward/downward, and the disk discriminating time is reduced, and the performance of the optical disk system is enhanced accordingly.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
