PURPOSE: To make a cooke-yarborough cycle engine operable as a Stirling refrigerating machine by means of external drive of an electric motor or the like. ;CONSTITUTION: A high-temperature portion comprises a high-temperature chamber 1, a heater 2, a high-temperature reclaimed 3, a high-temperature side radiator 4, and a high-temperature side intermediate temperature chamber 5, and a low-temperature portion comprises a low-temperature side intermediate temperature chamber 6, a low-temperature side radiator 7, a low-temperature reclaimer 8, a cooler 9, and a low-temperature chamber 10. The high and low temperature portions are coupled together by a power chamber 11 located between them, and the portion of connection between the high temperature portion and the power chamber 11 can be shut off by means of a shutoff mechanism such as a valve 21, so that only a Stirling engine consisting of the low temperature portion and the power chamber 11 becomes operable.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1996,JPO
