PURPOSE: To conceal a position error component parallel to a feed shaft by forming marks in a pattern approximating poritions of indivisual parallel lines forming not only a relatively acute angle to a pen scanning axis but also a relatively shallow angle to a printing medium feed axis at every scanning of a printing head along the pen scanning axis. ;CONSTITUTION: The scanning by a printing head is repeatedly performed along the pen scanning axis almost vertical to a printing medium feed axis. Marks are formed in a pattern approximating at least portions of many almost parallel indivisual lines forming not only a relatively acute angle to the pen scanning axis but also a relatively shallow angle to the printing medium feed axis at every scanning of the printing head along the pen scanning axis. Further, at a time of one or more preceding scanning related to each part of an image, a non-printing region is left between lines and, at a time of one or more succeeding scanning related to each part of an image, a non-printing region is filled.
