PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for operating a copper converter by which a copper grade in a matte supplied into the copper converter is enhanced to 64-68% without deteriorating slag characteristic and the production capacity of a copper smelting furnace can be improved.;SOLUTION: A heat quantity to be get out with nitrogen is reduced by increasing a blasting oxygen concentration to 29.5-32.0% for 64-68% copper grade in the matte and the blowing oxygen amount can be reduced until reaching to 1300°C mainly with FeS oxidizing reaction heat, and the slag characteristic is not deteriorated.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
