PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the workability and safety by inserting and feeding a bar workpiece to a spindle traveling type vertical machine tool from the side of a chuck provided at the lower end of a spindle. ;SOLUTION: The bar workpiece feeding device 3 is installed adjacent and close to a spindle traveling type machine tool provided with a headstock 4 journalling a nearly vertical spindle rotatably and traveling in the axial direction of the spindle and in the direction crossing the axis of the spindle at right angles, a chuck 6 provided at the lower end of the spindle, and a control means for performing control of the traveling of the headstock 4, control of the rotation of the spindle, and control of opening and closing of the chuck, and feeds a bar workpiece 9 to the spindle traveling type vertical machine tool.
