PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To lessen positional shift in the main scanning direction in going and returning paths with respect to a nozzle array by printing a positional shift inspection pattern without performing sub-scanning and determining a correction value according to a selected correction information indicative of a preferable correction state. ;SOLUTION: A control circuit 40 constitutes an arithmetic logic circuit of a CPU 41, a ROMs 43, and the like, and drives a dedicated I/F circuit 50 and a print head unit 60 to eject ink through a head drive circuit 52. When ink is ejected toward the same recording position, recording position may be shifted in the main scanning direction between the going and returning paths. Sub- scanning is not performed using a printer but a test pattern for determining a correction value is printed for each color, and a shift adjusting number of a pair of longitudinal rules having smallest shaft is inputted to the interface screen of a computer 88 and stored in a P-ROM 43. When print is designated, bi-directional printing is conducted while correcting shift using that correction value.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2001,JPO
