PURPOSE: To miniaturize a screw conveyor type apparatus for treating a wet organic solid, e.g. a soy sauce cake, with heat by prolonging the residence time for the wet solid, and to impart mixing and grinding abilities to the apparatus. CONSTITUTION: Many cutouts 54 are formed at regular intervals in the ribbon 52 or blade of a screw conveyor to separate the continuous ribbon or blade into equal sections. A paddle 60 parallel to the screw axis is preferably disposed at the end of each cutout 54. Grinding plates are connected to the ribbons 52, blades, or paddles 60.
