A method and system for constituting an integrated enterprise taxonomy(222) for an intellectual capital management system serving a plurality of local enterprise communities(80) and include the steps of and instructions for extracting a plurality of local taxonomies from the plurality of local enterprise communities(224, 240). The invention correlates from each of the plurality of local taxonomies a set of topics(164) and a set of associations(168) for generating a correlated topics and associations set(160) relating to each of the plurality of local taxonomies(224, 240). The system and method further derive a plurality of synonym links(262, 264, and 266) for linking synonyms within the correlated topics and associations set(260). The invention integrates the plurality of synonym links and the correlated topics and associations set into an integrated enterprise taxonomy(222). Then, the method and system export the integrated enterprise taxonomy into the intellectual capital management system.
