The construction (1) comprises horizontal layers (8) of car tires (2) which have been cut into pieces and conventional building materials. The flat sides (9) of the tires rest on top of a foundation, underlay or another layer of tires underneath. The tires have been cut in half. An independent claim is also included for a method for building the construction comprising the following steps: (a) stacking cut pieces of tires in layers so that the flat sides of the tires rest on top of each other and so that the two ends of each tire piece protrude into semi- cylindrical spaces in two adjacent tire pieces in the same layer; (b) introducing sand (3) into the spaces between the tires; and (c) pointing the wall faces (17, 18) with mortar.
