Method and apparatus for providing real-time operation in a personal computer system. It is described a method.The method includes receiving data in real time on a personal computer implementing a general purpose operating system.Generating an event in real time on the personal computer, and determining if the event in real time has a higher priority than a first event being processed in the personal computer.If the event in real time has a higher priority than the first event being processed in real time, the event is processed.
