Process for the hydrogenation of a cianoetilu00e9ter formed by the reaction of a reaction mixture consisting of aectonitrila or metacrinolitrila with an alcohol in the presence of a catalyst and contaminated Co.M by-product (meta) acrylonitrile. This invention relates to an improved hydrogenation process for the preparation of u00e9teraminas.In the process, cianoetilados alcohols; that is the reaction product of an alcohol with (meth) acrylonitrile, are contacted with hydrogen in the presence of a catalyst cobalt sponge. The improvement in the process resides in effecting the hydrogenation process using a supply of alcohol cianoetilado contaminated with by-product of acrylonitrile and using a solvent that solubiliZa the by-product (meta) acrylonitrile present in the supply. Specific classes of solvents employed are ethers and amides.
