In general terms, the present invention includes a process for producing a new zinc dialkyl dithiophosphate (ZDDP) offering improved sealing compatibility characteristics in engine and transmission oil packages. The present invention further includes zinc dialkyldithiophosphate produced according to the described methodologies, and oil additives, lubricants, and engines and transmissions comprising the zinc dialkyldithiophosphate of the present invention.
