The present invention relates to novel bi-tricyclic amino alcohol esters of the formula (I) and to pharmaceutical compositions containing them. In formula (I), A is a 3-position group of formula (a) or (b) wherein one of R and R 'is methyl and the other is methyl, ethyl, n-propyl or isopropyl and X is equivalent anion, Z is a group of formula (III) wherein R 1 is hydroxy, methyl or hydroxymethyl, R 2 and R 3 are the same or different, one of them may be hydrogen and they are phenyl, furyl, thienyl, C 5 -C 7 cycloalkyl, or fluoro-substituted C 1 -C 6 alkyl, or Z is a compound of formula IV wherein Y is oxygen or sulfur or methylmethylene, with the proviso that - Z - CO - tropoyl is a group wherein R and R 'are methyl or R is methyl and R' is ethyl; - when R1 is hydroxy or methyl, R2 and R3 are thienyl, then R2 or R3 is not thienyl, phenyl, furyl, cyclopentyl or cyclohexyl. The compounds are primarily bronchospasmolytic.
