The present invention relates to lubricating oil composition for internal combustion engines having improved detergency characteristics and higher biodegradability. The lubricating oil composition comprises an oil of lubricating viscosity as the major component and as the minor component (A) a calcium phenate overbased detergent derived from cashew nut shell liquid and (B) aminothiophosphate derived from cashew nut shell liquid.
