There is a need to meticulously measure the wear volume rate of various makes of hip joint prostheses for ranking their merits. World wide, many simulators have been designed and used, some of them with computer and robot assistance as well; nevertheless, there is no standardisation of wear experiments yet. The existing simulators' complexity has been of concern to wear experimentalists, whether they are testing the endurance of the specimens or the testing system itself. As a sequel, "Trifemur" has been invented to be robust and simple; yet effective equivalent to walking, qualitatively. This apparatus provides all the three components of rotations (unlike most other) and fatigue type of cyclic loading to the triple femurs, held between two coaxial discs and rocked by a swinging pendulum actuator. What the conventional pin- on-plate machine does for the planar interface, Trifemur, the new ball-in-socket machine will do for the spherical interface wear experiments.
