The invention relates to the field of electrochemistry, in particular to processes and installations for collection from the water surface of floating water-insoluble organic liquids.The process for purification of superficial oil petroleum spreads includes treatment thereof with waterproofed magnetosusceptible floating sorbent, with subsequent separation thereof in the magnetic field. Novelty consists in that as waterproofed magnetosusceptible floating sorbent there are used particles of expanded polystyrene, the surface of which is covered with zinc ferrite.The installation for purification of superficial oil petroleum spreads includes a frame, onto which there are mounted: a rotary, hermetically sealed magnetic receptacle of diamagnetic material with guides placed outside it and a protective housing; a scraper device installed with the possibility of continuous removal of the oil petroleum spreads from the surface of the magnetic receptacle into a collector capacity, and an electric drive. Novelty consists in that the magnetic receptacle is made multisection, the cylindrical sections of which are joined between them by necks, and inside it there is installed an immobile axle, onto which there are radially fixed T-shaped magnetic circuits, placed into each of the cylindrical sections. On the radial part of each magnetic circuit it is placed a winding, connected to the alternating-current source. The scraper device is made in the form of comb, the contour of the working faces of which coincide to the form of the lateral generating line of the magnetic receptacle.
