The invention relates to a metal ring assembly having a more or less U-shaped cross-section. The free ends of the flanges of said U are supported on and connected to two annular seats which are disposed on the internal surface of the support collar, in line with the internal edges thereof. The supports and connections for the free ends are sealed by means of annular weld beads which extend into the annular seats and which rest on the body of the support collar. In this way, an internal annular cooling conduit is formed having an internal surface area which is formed by the metal ring and the internal diametral surface of the support collar which extends between the two annular seats. The inventive method consists in: cutting a flat metal sheet of a suitable thickness to form a circular disk; by means of stamping on said disk, producing a circumferential wall with a projecting edge in the form of a diverging flange; cutting and removing the circular base by means of stamping on the part formed in the previous step; using the ring produced in the previous step and forming a second projecting edge in the form of a diverging flange by means of stamping on the circular edge opposite the first diverging flange. The metal ring thus obtained comprises a single C-shaped body of metal sheet having diverging flanges that comply with different pre-established designs.
