The assembly is of building blocks provided with a coupling layer, in which a block (1a,1b,1c,2a,2b,2c) has a basic block (3) with top and under sides (5,7), front end and rear sides and three head sides. The building block has two coupling layers (17,19) fitted on the lower and upper sides of the basic block. The one coupling layer (17) is provided with projections (21) and the other coupling layer (19) is provided with recesses (23). The projections and the recesses inter-engage with a clamping effect. The coupling layers (17) of the building blocks (2a,2b,2c) in the lowermost layer are coupled with the other coupling layers (19) of the building blocks (1a,1b,1c) of a layer directly above. The coupling layers (17,19) of the building blocks (2a,1b) are further pushed into one another.
