The expander-compressor unit (1) comprises a housing (2) in which are two parallel extending, elongated screw-form rotors (5,6) located in two parallel holes (3,4). The holes overlap each other partly. The positioning of the rotors is appropriately indicated (5a,6a). The rotors on opposite sides have extending shaft parts (5b,6b). The rotors fit accurately in the holes and engage tightly in each other. The holes partially overlap each other, forming a hollow space, closed on opposite sides of the housing by a cover plate (7). The extending shaft parts in the fitted state are located by bearings in holes (8) in the cover plate. In the upper side of the housing is a high pressure port (9) and during use a medium such as a gas or a fluid to be expanded can be introduced into the grooves of the rotors. On the upper side a low pressure port (10) is provided, which discharges the expanded medium. On the lower side of the housing, is a low pressure port (11), through which a gas for compression can be fed into the grooves of the rotors. Also on the under side, roughly at the same height of the low pressure port for expanded medium discharge is a high pressure port (12), through which compressed gas can be fed out of the grooves of the rotors.
