1. A ruthenium catalyst, especially for the process of hydrodesulphuration, consists of ruthenium deposited on a carrier. It is characterised in that magnesium fluoride is the carrier, characterised by the specific surface of 10-50 m2/g and used in the amount of 99.9 percent to 95 percent by moles, while ruthenium - in the amount of 0.1 to 5.0 percent by moles - is deposited on the carrier in the form of ruthenium carbonyl. 2. A method of obtaining ruthenium catalyst, especially for hydrodesulphuration, consists in depositing ruthenium on the carrier. It is characterised in that 0.1 to 5.0 percent by moles of ruthenium in the form of ruthenium carbonyl is deposited on 99.9 to 95 percent by moles of magnesium fluoride with the specific surface of 10-50 m2/g by introducing magnesium fluoride into alcoholic or hydrocarbonaceous solution of ruthenium carbonyl. Then, the obtained catalyst is evaporated by a known method, dried and, possibly, activated and/or calcinated.
