Described is a method of the in vitro diagnosis and therapy control of sprue or coeliac disease, in which antibodies against tTG obtained from body fluids are detected by means of an immune reaction with tissue transglutaminase, tTG or the immunoreactive sequences or analogues thereof. An oral pharmaceutical agent for the treatment of sprue or coeliac disease including tTG or the immunoreactive sequences or analogues thereof and optionally pharmaceutically tolerable adjuvants.
