Process for synthesizing 3,5-disubstituted-2-(phenyl or pyridyl)-pyridines of the formula (I) by reacting a compound of formula (II) with a compound of formula (III). 3,5-Disubstituted- 2-(phenyl or pyridyl)-pyridines of the formula (I) are suitable for the treatment of COX-2 mediated diseases.
