The proposed method for determining basic parameters in ultrasonic testing of cylindrical articles Implies using an ultrasonic transducer with a semi-cylindrical detecting element made of the same material as the material of articles to be controlled. The method consists in determining, during the movement of the detecting element over the surface of the article, the maximal value of an ultrasonic signal reflected from the reference surface of the detecting element and the maximal values of ultrasonic signals reflected from reflectors that are installed inside of the detecting element. In order to fix the direction that corresponds to the maximal intensity of ultrasonic radiation, a stabilizing element is used that contacts with the surface of the detecting element.
