The invention relates to agriculture and can be used in tomato breeding and genetic research to forecast the economic value of mutant genotypes. The invention is based on revealed correlation dependence between the morphological traits of the seedlings and productivity indices of mature plants of mutant tomato forms. According to the method, the height of a single seedling, diameter of the hypocotyl and the length of an internode are measured and, according to the said indices, the depression coefficient, according to which potential productive qualities of a plant is forecasted, is determined.
