Sewage sludge dryer comprises a sludge bed which is under a roof and is fitted with a stirrer unit which moves from the sludge feed to the discharge and back again. Its speed in the first direction is greater than that in the second so that sludge is transported by the Pilger method. An independent claim is included for a method for drying sewage sludge using the dryer.
