A method for detecting whether a target animal is positive or negative to the virus, bovine viral diarrhea, comprising: a) providing at least one sample from said target animal, wherein said sample is selected from the group consisting of blood serum, mucus , milk, blood plasma and urine; b) providing an assay system which comprises: 1) a capture antibody that is specific antibody epitope virus, bovine viral diarrhea, said immobilized capture antibody on a solid and capable of recognizing and binding a carrier protein or being protein fragment thereof bovine virus diarrhea virus gp48 retaining antigen specificity; 2) a detector antibody that is an antibody virus-bovine viral diarrhea anti capable of recognizing and binding said protein or protein fragment thereof bovine virus diarrhea virus gp48 retaining antigen specificity; 3) a generator signal system to indicate the presence of said detector antibody operatively associated with the virus antigen of the bovine viral diarrhea virus, selected from a primary antibody, which is labeled directly by covalent coupling or a labeled secondary antibody, specific for the primary antibody, or a labeled antibody specific for the primary secondary binder. c) analyzing the sample with said assay system to generate a change signal if the antigen viral diarrhea virus is present in the sample; and d) comparing the signal to reference levels to indicate whether the target animal is positive or negative for bovine viral virus diarrhea.
