A process for treating a feed charge comprising functionalized alpha-olefins and functionalized internal olefins is claimed, comprising: a) bringing the feed charge into contact with a linear polyaromatic compound under effective conditions to form a reaction mixture comprising a reaction mixture adduct of the linear polyaromatic compound and of the functionalized alpha-olefin; b) separating the adduct from the linear polyaromatic compound and from the functionalized alpha-olefin and, optionally, also the unreacted linear polyaromatic compound, from the reaction mixture, in order to form a stream of the functionalized alpha-olefin as an adduct and a functionalized internal olefin stream; c) dissociating the adduct from the linear polyaromatic compound and the functionalized alpha-olefin in said functionalized alpha-olefin stream in the form of an adduct to form a linear polyaromatic compound and a functionalized alpha-olefin composition, and optionally d) separating the compound linear polyaromatic formed in step c) of the functionalized alpha-olefin composition; wherein the functionalized olefins, whether internal olefins or alpha-olefins, are compounds with at least one double bond located in an aliphatic or cycloaliphatic moiety of the compound, and where the olefin has a functional group, other than a CC installation, where The functional group is selected from carboxyl, aldehyde, keto, thio, ester, ether, hydroxyl, and amino.
