A process for preparing atorvastatin in amorphous form, comprising: (a) providing a solution of atorvastatin in one or more solvents of a first type, in which atorvastatin is completely soluble; (b) providing a mixture of said solution of atorvastatin with one or more solvents of a second type, in which atorvastatin is insoluble or very poorly soluble, such that atorvastatin precipitates; (c) separating the precipitate formed in step (b) from the solvent mixture; characterized in that the solvent of the second type is an ether type solvent.
