A naphthopyran compound of structure 2H- naphtho [1, 2-b] pyran where said naphthopyran is represented by the following formula ** ** wherein (a) R1 is C3-C12, C3-C12 monosubstituted (C1-C6) alkyl, C3-C12 monosubstituted with alkoxy (C1-C6) halocycloalkyl, C3-C12; bicycloalkyl C4-C12 or C7-C12 tricycloalkyl; (B) R2 is hydrogen, C1-C6 alkyl, C3-C7, phenyl, mono-, di- or tri-substituted, the group ¿OR4, wherein R4 is hydrogen, C1-C6 alkyl, phenyl (C1 -C3), phenyl C1-C3 monosubstituted with (C1-C6), phenylalkyl C1-C3 monosubstituted with alkoxy (C1-C6) alkyl, (C1-C6) alkyl (C2-C4) alkyl, C3-C7 , C3-C7 monosubstituted with (C1-C4) alkyl, halo C1-C6 alkyl, allyl, the group ¿CH (R5) X where X is CN, CF3, halogen or is C (O) W where W is how OR9 or is N (R10) R11, R5 is hydrogen or C1-C6 alkyl, R9 is hydrogen, allyl, C1-C6 alkyl, phenyl, phenyl monosubstituted with (C1-C6), phenyl monosubstituted with alkoxy (C1-C6 ), phenylalkyl (C1-C3) C1- C3 phenylalkyl monosubstituted (C1-C6), phenylalkyl monosubstituted with C1-C3 alkoxy (C1-C6) alkyl, (C1-C6) alkyl (C2- C4), C1-C6 haloalkyl or R1 and R10 and R11 are selected, each group consisting of hydrogen, C1-C6 alkyl, C3-C7, phenyl, monosubstituted phenyl and phenyl disubstituted; or R4 is the group ż C (O) Y, wherein Y is hydrogen, C1-C6 alkyl, C1-C6, aryl groups phenyl or naphthyl each unsubstituted or mono- or di-substituted phenoxy, monosubstituted phenoxy or di- substituted with C1-C6 alkyl, phenoxy mono or di-substituted with C1-C6 alkyl, C1-C6 alkylamino, phenylamino, phenylamino mono- or di-substituted with C1-C6, or phenylamino or mono- di- substituted with C1-C6 alkoxy, said substituents being selected from aryl, including C1-C6 or C1-C6 alkyl, halo and said substituents are bromo, fluoro chloro or iodo.
