Process for treating industrial effluents to remove organic contamination and / or mineral, comprising the following successive steps: - acidification of the effluent by introducing into the latter of a suitable acid to make insoluble organic materials, - filtration of the effluent for removing insolubles, - electrolysis of the effluent in the presence of a pure catalytic solution of chloride or sulphate containing cations of at least two degrees of stable oxidation, - and neutralization of the effluent by introducing into the latter an alkaline base in quantities adapted to obtain a substantially neutral pH.
