AN AGENT AS A PROCESSING AID, A MINERAL WOOL NEEDLE-FELT, A CRIMPED MINERAL WOOL PRODUCT, AND METHODS FOR PRODUCING THEM

In order to be able to consolidate mineral fibers without binder, such as inparticular glass wool. into. a needle-felt byneedle-punching, an agent as a needling aid which comprises a thixotropizingadditive having a relatively low flow viscosity duringneedling and thus allows to effectively support the needling process; is addedto the mineral fibers. At rest. this thixotropizingadditive however has an extremely high viscosity, whereby the needle-punchedfelt obtains good strength. In particular for needlingrock wool, suppler textile fibers are moreover added which contribute toimproved mutual interlocking of the fibers, in particularin the case of mineral fibers such as basalt fibers, which can only withdifficulty be interlocked by needling. A correspondingprocessing aid furthermore proves advantages in the production of a crimpedmat from a laminar mat, as the drastically weakenedresistance against further shifting makes it possible to reorient the fibersin the crimping zone, gently and to a large degree,without the application of excessively large forces.
