OXYGEN SUBSTITUTED DERIVATIVES OF NUCLEOPHILE-NITRIC OXIDE ADDUCTS AS NITRIC OXIDE DONOR PRODRUGS

There are disclosed cardiovascularly active compoundspossessing antihypertensive properties, and pharmaceuticalcompositions containing these agents and a method of treatingcardiovascular disorders with the compounds. The activecomponents of the pharmaceutical compositions are compoundsof formula (I) wherein R1 and R2 are independently chosenfrom straight chain and branched chain alkyl and olefinicgroups, which may be unsubstituted or substituted; or R1and R2 together with the nitrogen atom they are bonded toform a heterocyclic group; and R3 is a pharmaceuticallyacceptable organic group selected from alkyl and olefinicgroups which may be unsubstituted or substituted; acyl, asulfonyl, sulfinyl, sulfenyl, carbonate, or carbamatederivative; or R3 is a group of the formula:(CH2)n ONN(O)NR1R2, wherein n is 2-8, and R1 and R2 areas described above. Novel compounds are disclosed whereinat least one of R1, R2 and R3 is an olefinic group orheteroatom-substituted straight or branched chain alkyl orolefinic group. Novel methods of synthesizing thecompounds are also disclosed.
