The invention relates to a method for producinghigh-grade nickel matte and slag in a combination of asuspension smelting furnace and some other furnacewithout charge-type converting, so that at least partof the concentrate and/or ore fed into the process isfirst refined pyrometallurgically into nickel matte,which then is fed into the suspension smeltingfurnace, where the high-grade nickel matte proper isproduced.
