ARTICLES EXHIBITING DURABLE COLOR AND/OR FLUORESCENT PROPERTIES

An article exhibiting durable fluorescent properties comprising a polymericmatrix, dye and hindered amine light stabilizer, whereinthe polymeric matrix is comprised of polycarbonate and the dye is comprised ofa dye selected from the group consisting essentiallyof thioxanthone, perylene imide and/or thioindigoid compounds. The articleexhibits durable fluorescence which resists degradation byultraviolet or visible radiation. The invention is optionally combined withretroreflective elements so that the resultant article has durablefluorescent properties when exposed to sunlight and is also retroreflective. Amethod of manufacturing an article exhibiting durablefluorescent properties is also disclosed along with a method of increasing thedurability of polycarbonate in a dyed system.
