Substantially transition metal-freepolyoxyalkylene polyethers may beprepared by double metal cyanidecomplex-catalyzed oxyalkylation of asuitable hydric oxyalkylation initiatormolecule by employing 15 ppm or lessof a double metal cyanide complexoxyalkylation catalyst having a propyleneoxide polymerization rate greater than 5gpropylene oxide/minute. The inductionperiods associated with oxyalkylationemploying double metal cyanide complexcatalysts may be reduced by preparingpreactivated master batches and byincreasing the oxyalkylation reactortemperature during at least the inductionperiod.
