PUNCTURE RESISTANT PROTECTIVE GARMENT AND METHOD FOR MAKING AND TESTING THE SAME

A puncture resistant garment (20)includes a plurality of flexible layers ofwoven sheets (22) positioned tooverlie one another forming a punctureresistant panel (28), in which each of thesheets (22) is constructed of aramid fiber(24) and in which the sheets (22) havea weave of at least 60 aramid fibersper inch in two transverse directions.The aramid fiber (24) has at least oneof the following characteristics: a) thearamid fibers are constructed offilaments which provide from 50,000,000up to 90,000,000 filaments crossoversper square inch in each of the sheets(22); b) the aramid fibers provide greaterthan 3 per cent break elongation; and c)the aramid fiber provides greater than23.8 grams per denier tenacity as wellas securement for the sheets (22)together to form the puncture resistantpanel (28) which prevents puncturepenetration from a sharp object (76) throughthe panel (20).
