DIGITAL VIDEO TRANSPORT ERROR HANDLING IN CELL BASED COMMUNICATIONS SYSTEMS

In a communications system packets containing compresseddigital signals are transported in multiple cells, typicallyin an Asynchronous Transfer Mode format. Upon reception ofthese cells, a determination is made as to whether cells have beenlost, additional cells inserted, or whether there were bit errors inthe transmission of the cells. If so, null packets are substitutedfor the erred packets and are sent to the video decompressionlayer.
