ELECTRONIC SUPPORT MEASURES (ESM) DUTY DITHERING SCHEME FOR IMPROVED PROBABILITY OF INTERCEPT AT LOW ESM UTILIZATION

A duty dithering method foruse with electronic support measuresand radar warning receivers, and thelike, that provides for improvedprobability of intercept at lowutilization levels. The electronic supportmeasures (ESM) system and radarwarning receiver are controlled by amulti-system sensor manager havingan ESM scheduler. In accordancewith the present method, a maximumduty cycle is chosen for the ESMsystem. The chosen duty cycle isallocated to the ESM system each frameby the ESM scheduler. At the beginningof each frame, the ESM schedulerpicks a random offset and subtractsit from the maximum duty tocompute an ESM duty for that frame.The ESM scheduler commands datacollections based on the computedduty for that frame. This step isrepeated each frame.
