BILGE KEEL AND METHOD FOR FPSO TYPE PETROLEUM PRODUCTION SYSTEMS

A method is disclosed for adapting a decommissioned ship, e.g. an oil-tanker,to control rolling for use as a Floating ProductionStorage and Offloading vessel (FPSO). The FPSO bilge keel (8) is made up oftwo lines of plates, continuous or sectioned, in this casewith a small separation between each two adjacent sections, mounted along thebilge of the vessel, one on either side, at right angles tothe hull, and is made wider and/or with a greater total length than the bilgekeel (5) of the original decommissioned ship. In a preferredembodiment the bilge keel is made up of corrugated plates (7).
