A method is disclosed for consolidating an unconsolidatedformation, which method includes the steps of providing a welldrilled to an unconsolidated formation, providing aconsolidation fluid in the form of a fluid suspension ofnanoparticles, and flowing said consolidation fluid through thewell and into the unconsolidated formation sa as to position thenanoparticles between grains of the unconsolidated formationwhereby the formation is consolidated over time.
