BIOMARKERS FOR THE DIFFERENTIAL DIAGNOSIS OF PANCREATITIS AND PANCREATIC CANCER

The present invention provides biomolecules and the use of these biomoleculesfor the differential diagnosis of pancreatitis and/or pancreatic cancer. Inparticular the present invention provides methods for detecting biomoleculeswithin a test sample as well as a database comprising of mass profiles ofbiomolecules specific for healthy subjects, subjects having a precancerouslesion of the pancreas, subjects having a pancreatic cancer or a metastasisedpancreatic cancer or subjects having pancreatitis. Furthermore, the presentinvention provides methods for the characterization of said biomolecules usinggas phase ion spectrometry. In addition, the present invention providesmethods for the identification of said biomolecules provided that they areproteins or polypeptides. The invention further provides kits for thedifferential diagnosis of pancreatitis or pancreatic cancer.
