WATERMELON VARIETIES HAVING ALTERED SUGAR RATIOS

The present invention relates to watermelon varieties producing fruit withaltered sugar ratios having superior taste characteristics. Specifically, thepresent invention provides watermelon varieties producing fruit havingfructose content of at least 50% of the total soluble sugar; varietiesproducing fruit having sucrose content of at least 65% of the total solublesugar; and varieties producing fruit having a combined fructose and sucrosecontent of at least 90% of the total soluble sugar. The present inventionfurther relates to the use of said varieties for the production of watermelonsfor the fresh and processed fruit market.
