The invention relates to a method and a system for testing the conductivity and/or magnetic properties of a security element that is linked with the substrate of a security document. According to the invention, the testing is carried out while the security element or the security document is produced. Specifically, testing can be carried out when the security element is linked with the substrate of the security document, or directly afterwards before the substrate is further treated or stored temporarily (in-line testing). The inventive method and device allows for a substantially higher test density of the produced material than any off-line method and device.
