Through accurate detection, with less burden on test subjects, of abnormality prior to the development of pregnancy toxemia which could not be detected by the known various testing means for pregnancy toxemia, there are provided a method of prognosing the development of pregnancy toxemia and a method of estimating fetus/placenta function under pregnancy toxemia. In particular, there is provided a method of detecting pregnancy toxemia characterized in that the human lipocalin-type prostaglandin D synthetase (L-PGDS) in a body fluid sample taken from test subjects is measured.
