UPGRADING ELECTRONIC FILES OF A MOBILE DEVICE UPGRADE CLIENT

A portable communication device (122) is provided that receives upgrade files (118) via a wireless coupling. The contents of the upgrade file (118) include information to repair errors in software components of the portable communication device (122) and/or information to upgrade functions of the portable communication device (122). An upgrade client (126) of the portable communication device (122) automatically upgrades the software components using the upgrade file contents. Automatic upgrades of the software components include self-upgrades to software components of the upgrade client (126).
