A carousel type tablet forming press has lower press stamps (18) supported on a thrust cam (30, 32) and with their upper ends positioned inside a press matrix (12) to control the mount of powder (24) swept into each press position as the matrix moves under the dosing chamber (22). The thrust cam is subjected to vertical vibration during and after filling to shake the powder into an even consistency before the tablets are formed by compressing between upper and lower stamps. The frequency and amplitude of the vibrations are adjustable to match the type of filling and size and shape of the tablets.
