A closure (1) comprising a cap part (10) and a tamper evident band (20) having a retaining bead (21) with a retaining surface (22) for retaining the tamper evident band below a corresponding retention bead (31) of a container (30), the closure further comprising connecting bridges (23) removably connecting said tamper evident band (20) to the cap part (10), wherein the connecting bridges (23) are arranged on an inner surface (24) of the tamper evident band (20) and extend axially from a lower edge (11) of the closure cap to the retaining surface (22), wherein the connecting bridges (23) are adapted so that the radius of their inner surface is less than the outer radius of the retention bead (31) of the container, so that with the closure (1) fitted to the container (30) the tamper evident band (20) takes the form of a non-circular polygon, and wherein the retaining surface (22) is adapted so that when fitted to the container (30) it is retained below the corresponding retention bead (31) of the container about the entire circumference of the closure.
