A discharge crushing method for crushing an object to be crushed, wherein holes for discharge and free surfaces are formed on the object to be crushed or an object to be excavated such as a horizontal tunnel and a vertical shaft and the areas thereof between the holes for discharge and the free surfaces are crushed by discharge in the holes for discharge since it was difficult to efficiently excavate the object to be crushed or efficiently excavate the horizontal tunnel and the vertical shaft. When the horizontal tunnel is excavated, for example, the free surfaces extending in the excavation advancing direction of the horizontal tunnel and a direction orthogonal to the excavation advancing direction are formed on the excavated object of the horizontal tunnel, the holes for discharge extending in the excavation advancing direction are formed, electrodes for discharge are installed in the holes for discharge, shock wave is generated by discharge at the discharge parts of the electrodes for discharge to crush the excavated parts between the holes for discharge and the free surfaces by the shock wave so as to excavate the horizontal tunnel.
